2012 Track Season
Visit our Facebook Wall

It's not too soon to start thinking about the 2012 track season.
If you're not in a winter sport we've having pre-season fitness training three days a week at 3pm. Meet at the track Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If you're a sprinter coach Grant is out there at 4pm.

The tentative dual and invite meet schedule is posted below. However there are several all-comers meets coming up. You can find them all on San Diego Track Magazine but I've also posted the links to the info for each below:

Jan 28th: Winter Track Classic All-Comers at Montgomery
Feb 4th All-Comers at Mira Mesa
Feb 11th: Winter Track Classic All-Comers at Mt. Miguel
Feb 25th: Winter Track Classic All-Comers at Patrick Henry

Our TENTATIVE dual meet schedule this season is as follows:
29 March: Crawford at Coronado
12 April: Coronado at Clairemont
        Bye Week
26 April: Coronado at Madison
  3 May: Chistian at Coronado
8 May: League Prelims - Location TBA
11 May: League Finals - Location TBA

Championship Meets (Individuals must qualify):
19 May: CIF Prelims at Mt. Carmel
26 May: CIF Finals at Mt. Carmel
1-2 June: State Meet at Fresno

In addition to the above meets there are many all-comers meets available before the season start. You can browse through these on San Diego Track Magazine.

Once the "official" season starts in late Feburary there are many Sanctioned meets that we take selected athletes to. These are also on the Track Magazine site but below are the ones we'll probably attend. I inserted the dual meets above into the list below so you can see how they mesh.

March 3rd: Nighthawk Frosh/Soph Invite at Del Norte
March 3rd: Sundevil Distance and Field at Mt. Carmel

This is a tough weekend because Soccer won't yet be over and there are two meets on the same day. We may wind-up splitting the team between the two as one is a F/S meet and one is just Distance and Field events (no hurdles or sprints).

March 9th: Crusader Classic at Calvin Christian
March 10th: Bronco Invite
The Crusader Classic is very low key. They even make you time your own runners. If there's enough interest we'll go. The next day we'll take a select group to Bronco. Not everyone, however, becuse there are standards.

March 17th Elmer Runge Classic
We always go to this one... it's fun! We can take quite a few but not all. It depends on where you'll be in your training at this point in time.

March 24th: Mt. Carmel Sundevil Invite
The biggest local meet. It takes a pretty good mark to get in but we always qualify more than our fair share of ahletes.

------- 29 March: Dual meet Crawford at Coronado
The girls will have no problem, the boys will have some good races.

Crusader Invite (small schools) date to be determined (March 24th or March 31st)
We can take everyone but it depends on which date they decide on. If it's the 24th we won't go because we'll be at Mt. Carmel. If it's the 31st we'll take quite a few.

April 6-7: Arcadia
A very large meet that you must qualify for... may take a few but it's the last weekend of our spring break.

------ 12 April: Coronado at Clairemont
For the girls to win the league championship again, they must get past Clairemont. I don't think we'll have a problem with any of the others. Boys should do well... they won last year.

April 13-14. Mt. SAC relays
Even harder than Arcadia to qualify for.. we'll see

April 14th: Jaguar Invite at Valley Center
We always take some, maybe this season we'll take more.

-----26 April: Coronado at Madison
Very tough boys' team. They'll probably wind-up as league champs again. Girls' team is usually pretty sparse.. we should split this one.

April 27th Escondido Invite
April 28th: UCSD Triton Invite
April 28th Dick Wilkins F/S at Del Norte
This us usually the busiest weekend of the year. There's a dual meet on Friday (April 26th) with a tough team (Madison) so we'll skip Escondido this year). The Triton Invite is acutally a College meet that anyone can run in. Generally our top athletes compete as unattached. The F/S meet pretty high quality and they take only the top athletes in each event. There are both Frosh and Soph heats. We always qualify our share and this year should be no different.

----- 3 May: Christian at Coronado
Christian always has some good individual athletes on both their boys' and girls' teams. However because of their size, they have a depth problem. Last season our boys won by 12 points, the girls by nearly 40 points. This season our girls should win easily but the boys could have an "interesting" meet.

----- 8 May: League Prelims - Location TBA
The 8th is Tuesday but we usually have some events on either or both Monday and Wednesday as well. We can put quite a few athletes in the prelims but to get to the finals on Friday, an athlete must place in the top 9 to advance.

----11 May: League Finals - Location TBA

The two guaranteed ways to advance to the CIF prelims is to either finish in the top 2 at this meet or meet the CIF standard. A coaches meeting the next day can advance others if there are open lanes, but you'll be competing against all teams in the Division II for these open slots.

May 19th: CIF Prelims at Mt. Carmel
To get to the CIF finals you need to be in the top 9 in your division.
There are two CIF track divisions large schools (D-I) and Small Schools (D-II). We're in D-II.

May 26th: CIF Finals at Mt. Carmel
To get to the state meet you must place in the top 3 or meet a state standard. There are no divisions at the state meet.

June 1-2: State Meet at Fresno
Friday are the prelims, Saturday are the finals. To get to the finals you need to be in the top 9 on Friday.

2009 Cross Country
A big thanks and well-done for the excellent job that Bill Davies did with the girls this season. If it wasn't for the flu and various other maladies we probably would now be state champs. However 4th out of all the D-IV schools in the state ain't too shabby. Thanks also to Julie Davies for all her hard work as the ISF booster contact for Cross Country.

Team Stats are on Athletic.net
Check out or team statistics on athletic.net. A few years ago I stated working with David Bowdoin, the coach/programmer who started it to try to get all of the San Diego section schools on board. We've been very successful with Cross Country and all of our local invites are on the system with full results. Click on this link for a list of all the events that we've attended for the last three years. From this page you can click on any athlete and see their entire history on Athletic.net, some as far back as middle school. Also see my website sdtrackmag.com for over a decade's worth of results and a very active message board (over 6000 page views per day).
